The Cleveland Heights-University Heights school district has a long and rich history. Formed in 1901 with a single schoolhouse, the district has grown and changed dramatically over the years.
With over a century of students, teachers and graduates, our district’s proud heritage is filled with countless memories and mementos. Sadly over time photographs, yearbooks, programs and other memorabilia has been lost as there has not been a centralized location for maintaining and preserving the district’s past. This changed in 2004 through the generosity of Alvin L. Gray ’45 with his generous donation to fund the establishment of a permanent archive for the Heights schools.
Al’s donation has allowed us to begin to consolidate, catalog and preserve unique and precious pieces of our district’s history. An ongoing process, the Foundation encourages graduates, parents and residents to contribute to our collection to insure the preservation of materials over time. Volunteers are welcome to aid in the cataloging of items and the identification of photos. To contribute materials or assist in the work of the archives, contact Sue Pardee at 216-371-7171 or s_pardee@staff.chuh.org.
With people very fond of our vintage photos, we have posted some choice selections from our collection of digital images. Take a look and reminisce. Thanks to technology no need to worry about fingerprints on the pictures!
