Every spring the Cleveland Heights High School Alumni Foundation awards scholarships to graduating seniors. The funds for these scholarships come from the proceeds of the Foundation's Pancake Breakfast held in the spring, the Holiday Cocktail Party held in December, and the generous donations from Heights High graduates. The Foundation currently awards the following scholarships:

Deb Delisle Scholarship

Deb Delisle was Superintendent of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District from 2003-2008, before becoming The State of Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction. During her tenure, she brought an unprecedented and contagious energy and passion, as well as an unyielding belief in every student in the District. Her focus on the success of all students, articulated through her mantra, “Every Student, Every Day, Some Success, Some Way,” charted a path toward excellence which continues to motivate the future of the Heights Schools.
This scholarship honors the achievements and spirit of Ms. Delisle, a first generation college graduate herself, by extending her legacy in the way she would find most rewarding: helping a student have the same opportunities provided to her.
Awarded to a graduating first generation, college-bound senior from Cleveland Heights High School, the student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00.

Sandra Beck Wessler Memorial Scholarship

Sandra Toby Beck Wessler graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in June of 1965. She chose not to go to college and went to work as a private secretary immediately after graduation. Sandy was diagnosed with leukemia in February of 1966. In May of that year, she and her high school sweetheart Barry Wessler were married. Sandy passed away in August of 1966.
Awarded to a graduating senior attending college with the goal of a career in medicine, the student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and submit two teacher recommendations and essay on why they are pursuing a career in medicine.

Dr. Sydney J. Goldstein June Class of 1952 Annual Scholarship Fund
In honor of their 75th birthday, the June Class of 1952 has established an annual scholarship fund in order to give back to their alma mater and help support current Heights High students.
The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior with a minimum GPA of 2.8 who intends to further their education by pursuing a course of study that will prepare them for a career in public service. The applicant must have worked or volunteered in the public sector and articulate the area of public service they are interested in, as well as why they feel it is important to dedicate oneself to public service.

Career Prep Scholarship
   
Awarded to a graduating senior with a grade point average of 3.0 or better in Career Prep courses taken. The applicant must submit an essay about future career plans, a recommendation from one Career Prep teacher and one academic teacher, and have completed at least three credit hours in the Career Prep department by graduation.

James Cipolletti Future Educator Scholarship
   
James “Jim” Cipolletti is a former administrator in the Heights School system. Mr. Cipolletti earned his B.A. at John Carroll University before receiving his Masters at Kent State University. After 11 years in the Cleveland Public Schools, Mr. Cipolletti became principal at Wiley Middle School, a role he held for twenty years. Mr. Cipolletti was then tapped to be Administrative Principal at Heights High, a position that he held for five years before retiring.
Awarded to a graduating college bound senior intending to become an educator, the applicant must submit a teacher's recommendation as well as a written essay on the topic listed on the application.

Kevin Fahey Memorial Scholarship
  
Awarded to a graduating senior active in instrumental music, vocal music and drama, it is in memory of Kevin Fahey, Class of '77. Before a successful career in advertising and Yale University, Kevin was Drum Major for the marching band, played saxophone and bassoon in other bands, sang with the Heights Singers and participated in numerous theater productions inside and outside of Heights High.
Applicants submit an essay describing how the performing arts have played a significant role in their life along with teacher recommendations.

Judith Glickson Creative Writing Scholarship
   
This award is in memory of Judith Glickson, a ‘47 Heights High graduate, a member of the Cleveland Heights High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame, and a member of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Board. Prior to her death, she had begun work on the creation of the Cleveland Heights High School Alumni Association.
Awarded to a graduating senior, the applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and be planning to attend college in the fall. The applicant must submit a creative writing essay, which is defined as an original, innovative and imaginative work of fiction or poetry, and letters of recommendation from his/her English teacher and a teacher outside of the English department.

Legends Scholarship
   
Awarded to a graduating senior with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The recipient must be a student at Cleveland Heights High School for at least two years and have at least one parent who is a graduate of Heights High. The applicant must submit a teacher recommendation as well as a written essay on a topic listed on the application.

Marian Katz Magid Memorial Scholarship
  
A passionate supporter of public education, Marian graduated from Heights in ‘53. She and her family moved to Berkeley, California in 1967 so that her children would be part of the new busing system to integrate the public schools. She represented the Oakland Public Schools and Contra Costa County Office of Education for 10 years each and worked as a consultant to the Berkeley Unified School District after her retirement. She continued her community work through Rotary, Hadassah and the Kennedy King Scholarship program.
Marian Katz Magid Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior with a grade point average of 3.0 or better and planning on attending college in the fall. The student must submit a creative writing essay, which is defined as an original, innovative and imaginative work of fiction or poetry, and letters of recommendation from their English teacher as well as a teacher outside of the English department.

Tiger Scholarship
   
Awarded to a graduating senior who is continuing their post high school studies. The student must have completed three years at Cleveland Heights High School, have no FA's, (failure due to absence) during their junior year or first semester of senior year, have a grade point average of between 2.0 and 2.5, and submit an essay on a topic listed on the application.

Bertram “Bart” Wolstein
Entrepreneurial Scholarship
   
Bertram “Bart” Wolstein was a ‘45 Heights High graduate and an inductee into the Cleveland Heights High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. Mr. Wolstein is known for his success in the real estate industry, exemplified in two companies he founded, Developers Diversified and Heritage Development. Mr. Wolstein and his wife Iris, Class of '47, are also known for their philanthropic work throughout greater Cleveland.
This scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr. Wolstein to a graduating college bound senior intending to major in business, finance or economics, the applicant must submit a teacher's recommendation as well as a written essay on the topic listed on the application.

Yoda-Newton "Share the Love" Scholarship
   
The Yoda-Newton "Share the Love" Scholarship was established in 2006 to help students who have faced adversity or have taken the initiative to volunteer their time to help others in need. Up to four $2,000 scholarships areawarded to college bound seniors annually and are renewable for another three years provided the student meets certain criteria.

Viktor Schreckengost Design Scholarship


Viktor Schreckengost, often referred to as an American Da Vinci, was an artist who worked in various mediums over the course of his life. His work in the field that would become known as industrial design created designs and concepts still used today. An artist who worked in ceramics, created sculptures and painted in oils and watercolors, he is also known for his designs for mass-produced dinnerware, the millions of bicycles and pedal cars that were created to his designs, and the descendants of his design for the first cab over engine truck can be scene on America’s highways every day.
While not a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, Mr. Schreckengost lived in Cleveland Heights for over 50 years and his step-children are Heights High Alumni, and grandchildren are current students. A supporter of the Heights Schools, one of his designs can be seen in within our schools, as he designed the mascot for Roxboro Elementary School.
The recipient is selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Cleveland Heights High School Alumni Foundation and awarded to a student attending college with the goal of a career in art, design or architecture.

John Idris Benjamin Memorial Scholarship

The John Idris Benjamin Memorial Scholarship is offered by his daughter Diane Benjamin-Jones as a tribute to her father in recognition of his greatest gift to her life, a lifetime filled with sounds of beautiful and traditional Welsh music.
The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who can demonstrate financial need. The applicant must have a grade point average of 2.8 or higher and planning to attend college in the fall.
The applicant must have an emphasis on music or music education in pursuit of a Fine Arts Degree. This scholarship is paid directly to the university or college.

Foundation Community Award

Awarded only in 2002, this award was given to graduating Heights High seniors who, in addition to a strong history of academic success and commitment to Heights High, also displayed outstanding commitment to the broader Cleveland Heights-University Heights community.
